SWaP for the IoT

2018-09-18T10:04:05+00:00September 18th, 2018|Blog|

Engineering, like life, is all about compromises. You might want that new sports car, but how do you justify the cost? And does it have enough space to take the kids to football practice? Similarly, in any electronics system design, you need to balance multiple factors, and make trade-offs. You can’t have everything. SWaP

Industrial Computing on the Edge

2018-08-21T11:09:19+00:00August 21st, 2018|Blog|

As the Internet of Things takes shape, companies are realizing that not everything can, or should be moved to the cloud. For many industrial applications, real-time operation and analog interfacing are crucial. While cloud-based analytics can bring new efficiencies and insights, computing at the edge of the IoT stays fundamental. But if industrial computing

Industrial is the New Consumer

2018-08-14T11:14:27+00:00July 24th, 2018|Blog|

It used to be so simple. If you were designing an industrial system or product, you knew where you stood. You chose well-proven technologies, developed over many years or even decades. Everything was tested in harsh environments. Everything worked. And no-one expected you to keep up with the latest fashion in consumer gadgets. Today, that

Dealing with Disruptive Technology and the IoT

2018-08-21T06:10:18+00:00July 10th, 2018|Blog|

It’s a bit of jargon that’s maybe over-used, but if you’re an electronics designer you need to be thinking about so-called ‘disruptive’ technologies. Why? Well, if you’re not convinced of the impact, ask Kodak about how digital cameras hit their film business. Or talk to Sony about what the iPod did to the Walkman.
